The Phillips Story - An Evolution of Love

DAIMON & AKIA PHILLIPS

Daimon and I both entered FVSU as freshmen in Fall 2005. We ran in different circles for the first few years, but our paths crossed through mutual friends in Fall 2007. We started as friends, and continued until Homecoming week 2008 when we realized it would be worth it to try and become something more. Little did we know what an amazing love would come out of this friendship! After I graduated college in 2011, we had our first son. We were married in 2016, and our second son arrived in 2018. We've changed so much since our chance meeting back in 2007, and life has brought many highs and lows over these years. Through everything, we've made sure to nurture our love, and it has only brought us closer with every passing year.

Wisdom for Today’s Students on Love, Relationships & Balancing School Life

A few of the lessons we've learned through our relationship
Keep God first, and stay in tune with His message for us. Make sure we are aligned in our goals for ourselves and our family. Love doesn't have to be hard–life is hard enough. We've always been committed to being a source of peace for each other through the hardships of life.
Do the work to improve as individuals, so that we can truly share our whole selves with each other.

Communicate often, and early. Discuss how feelings for each other evolve over time, what our triggers and fears are, etc. It doesn't hurt to over-communicate sometimes.

Loyalty over everything–Remove everything that doesn't contribute to the goals we have for our lives. It's us against the world, always.
